Does anyone know of any (preferably free) software that can produce a simple outline image, like a cartoon (see below), from a portrait photo?

It might be a plugin for Adobe Photoshop. Some of these can create from a photo, various artistic expressions.

There are a lot of people who do this 'vector art' - I saw a load at DeviantART and some were very good. My favourites professional pieces are the 'Hed Kandi' album covers.0
