Car Buying Guide

Does anyone know of any decent car buying guides out there? I dread going into a car dealership and everyone I talk to just seems to give their own opinion without offering any solid advice. What I need to know is:

1/Can I haggle with car dealers or car salesmen? and if so how?

2/How do I get the best part exchange price?

3/Should I pay cash or take finance?

Help this poor car buyer out please!! :(

    1. If you dont haggle your going to pay WAY TOO MUCH. How is easy. Know what the car is really worth and offer them that much. Phone another dealer and see what they will offer for the car your buying. Obviously your not going to get it that cheap. But midway is a starting point.

    2. Have a car thats desirable to them.

    3. Depends on the deal at the end of the day. They may discount more if you take finance because they get commission. But is it cheaper for you?

Need a bit more info really.

    Are you buying new?

    Are you buying nearly new?

Do you want a three yr old car that the first owner has paid for a big chunk of depreciaton?

Might be a review of books instead, rubbish the rest and then there's this other one which really stands out, available from Amazon.

hmm one post above already looks promising....;)
maybe another new poster will have the same idea...

Thanks Bigjl, I can see the others are just wasting my time on here and only trying to prove to each other what big clever males they are!!

I'm looking at around 4 years old, have the cash but don't necessarily want to spend it on a car. Looking at BMW 320d or Audi A4 TDI. Should be able to get one for under £15000 I think?

Last visit to a showroom was about 4 years ago and promised myself never again :o

Others are wasting your time? Thats nice....

£15,000 on a 4 year old AUDI? Errr they sell for 1/2 to 2/3rds of that figure. Spec / Mileage etc.

Guides on the Kindle are they all US guides?

I usually checkout the prices on gtccar. They don't haggle at all (as far as I'm aware) but their prices are reasonable. Otherwise look at the prices on autotrader
  • I use pistonheads for my car related information.

With car buying research is the key, taking your time, and comparing options.

Mind you that said the last car I bought because it was yellow and had a black roof, and my wife 'wanted' it. Sigh
