How does cheap energy club work?!

Hello

I signed up to the cheap energy club a month or so ago when i moved house, to a deal which i thought was for both electricity and gas with a cashback and free hotel stay
So far, only my electricity seems to have moved to the new provider - but i can't find anything in my account on that site or my emails that says that both gas and electricity shold have moved, and I didn't write it down at the time
Is there a way of finding out what the historic recommendation was?

Also i get that the cashback should automatically happen after a few months - but i' not sure if the free hotel stay should come via the Cheap Energy Club or the new energy provider. Anyone had this, and how do you get it?

thank you!

The CEC works like any other comparison site, (in fact it uses data from the Moneysupermarket energy comparison site to compare) but with an added extra.

The CEC will alert you to a lower price tariff for your particular needs if there is one available.

So if you have signed up to the CEC, and then if there is a cheaper alternative for you either now or in the future (it monitors all the price changes) and you have not specified an alert limit (or the savings exceed any specified limit) then you will be alerted to that fact.
  • I am switching through the Cheap Energy Club for myself and for my elderly father, but neither of us has been given the prices stated on the fixed tariffs I selected - in fact, they are quite a lot higher and I wouldn't have switched to them at the prices we've actually been given. I'm very disappointed that this can happen, it seems we cannot rely on the unit prices and standing charges stated by the Club, so I just wanted to warn people to be aware of this.

What do you mean by you didn't get the prices you were quoted?

Do you mean the annual cost is more because you used more than you said you would? If so, that would have a corresponding effect on all the other prices the CEC gave you.

Or do you mean you were not given the tariff prices you were advised? If not, why not?
The tariff prices would have been confirmed to you in your welcome letter from the supplier ... the one that allows you a cooling off period.
  • Thanks pooch. I understand that it's a comparison site - I just can't find any confirmation of what i signed up to - I would have expected the site to send an email saying what you've chosen and what the terms and conditions were - so that if the energy supplier signs one up on the wrong deal there's a way of checking.
I'm also not really sure how to make sure i get the other things that were promised with the deal eg the free hotel stay, as i have no evidence that this is what I was entitled to
Beginning to wish i hadn't used it :(
  • Sorry for the delay in responding Pooch - I couldn't find my post (I'm new to the forum! Is there a way to see what posts you've made?). The unit prices are what were advertised but the standing charges are higher. The confirmation letter NPower sent was dated a week after I made the switch, but I was away from home at my dad's so only got it after the cooling off period. I have made a complaint with NPower (actually they said they had had a few people whose written confirmations were different to those advertised) and they are looking into it. I didn't actually realise that by going through the Energy Club I was using Money Supermarket (perhaps I wasn't paying attention or is it not actually made clear?) and if I knew that I would have also done other comparisons. Plus, to add to what Kathyr25 is saying, when I spoke to NPower they told me that the £30 cashback and free hotel stay were nothing to do with them and would be paid to me by Money Supermarket! That was never made clear - how do they intend paying me? I haven't heard a thing from them - I assume the Cheap Energy Club has passed my details on to them (not that I was aware of it) but how can they pay it into my bank account when they don't have my account details? I have to say I am really disappointed with MSE about all of this and Kathyr25 I completely agree - I wish I'd just done it all myself.
  • One thing's for sure, the Energy Club doesn't seem to have any way of contacting them to ask questions.

I also wish I hadn't used it now, as I have a question that I can't seem to get a clear answer to.
