It was nearly a year ago that I realised I needed to do something or I would never be out of debt. Since then I have made some small changes but not reduced debt. In fact, it went up!
August 2013 - took some bits of advice from MSE site and reduced monthly outgoings by £100. Over the next 2 months I spent an extra £100 on, well who knows.
Finally this weekend, I have been trapped on the sofa by a stomach bug and as I received notification of a PPI refund, applied for in August thanks to MSE, I spent most of Saturday reading the forum and the guides on the main site.
Today I did my weekly shop. I wrote a shopping list, bought only what was on the list and didn't get cash back at the tills.
I have set a Weekly Spend Challenge of £10. I will also spend at least 1 evening a week reading guides and implementing the money saving ideas which will help me to become debt free.

Hi Rosepetal
A great kick-start with the PPI refund and hope you feel better soon.
Look forward to following your diary, those baby steps will soon add up and one week will become two and so on with sticking to shopping lists, etc.
I've asked for shopping list pads in my Xmas stocking from my parents this year, save me buying them

Well done on using your PPI refund as your lightbulb to tackle your debts - I've seen a lot of people get that money and then blow it, so you're doing the right thing

Welcome to the boards!

Weekly spend challenge - £10. Already spent £1.49 so was horrified to realise today that I had forgotten to budget for a 21st birthday present needed for tomorrow. So 59p for a card and £12.30 for a pressie in Sainsburys BUT I had £5 on my Nectar card which I didn't know about so that leaves me with 62p for the rest of the week.
I always wonder, when I get to the end of the month, where did the money go? The challenge has given me an answer - it goes on the "bits and bobs" the "I must just get" and the "Damn! I forgot I needed that".
I love the support on these forums

The bits and bobs are the worst thing.
I'm beginning to realise how bad I am with small impulse spends and I'm in my first Weekly Spend Challenge for a long time this week - it's really highlighting it for me.0 -
So off to pub tonight for weekly gathering. Challenge will be to spend £0 but that would also help with my AFD target!!! Fingers crossed :eek:Proud to be dealing with my debts!
