Portable DVD player

Hi all, I'm looking to get a portable DVD player for my dad for Christmas. Any ive looked at seem not to be usable whilst they are charging - and the battery life is only 2 hours. I'm guessing they are mainly for short car journeys and the like but I was hoping to rescue my dad from hours of mums soap operas by allowing him to watch a couple of films.
Does anyone have any advice on these things?! Or are they generally a bit rubbish?!

Most should still operate whilst plugged in, but does it need to be portable dvd. As most are only 7" screen. Also most will only last for about 2 hours as you have found out, so enough for 1 average film
Depending on budget, can get 22" tv with dvd built in for about £130Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
No, I guess it doesn't have to be a portable DVD player. A couple of friends suggested a cheap tablet and a Netflix subscription. But I hadn't even considered a tv/DVD player. I'm glad I've plenty of time to make my mind up as I've just got myself more confused!0
