Dispute, but what about Feedback

I've been on Ebay for years, and have recently bought an item that was not as described (it was incomplete, and the buyer pretty much admits he made a mistake). It's now gone to Paypal for resolution as he wouldn't resolve without their involvement, so I'll wait to hear back.

My question is what happens with Feedback? Neither of us have left any feedback to date, but I just wonder if the seller could leave me negative feedback purely for claiming. Or is there any way of stopping negative feedback?

Thanks!

Claim or no claim you can still leave feedback.

what about not leaving feedback at all? that way you wont run the risk of getting negative. doubt you would get negative feedback unless you left negative first.
  • My personal thoughts are that it's worth leaving a negative if the seller really is an !!!. It helps to warn others, which is what feedback is for. I'd take the retaliatory feedback on the chin, and post a suitable reply to it.

I'm not worried about leaving negative feedback for him (it's not a huge deal in this case). I'm more concerned about whether there is any way of stopping him from leaving negative for me.

I know some people who won't deal with anyone with less than 100% feedback, and I already have one negative from someone who messed me about, but left negative feedback days before deregistering from Ebay.

Dave Brooker is right, there is no way to prevent feedback being left.

Oh well, thanks anyway. The problem with feedback is people tend to get a bit lazy and don't necessarily read the reason for negatives - just relying on the percentage on the screen. It leaves it open to abuse.

Don't forget to leave fair feedback for him when the dispute's over. After all, failing to do so would make a mockery of the system, n'est-pas?
