Noisy Electric Panel Heater

Hi,

I had a Dimplex RPX panel heater installed in the bedroom. However it made a lot of noise as it constantly clicks as the thermostat adjusts the temperature which disturbs sleep. This seems to be common to this range as the other RPX heaters in my living room do the same. The heaters are about 8 years old.

I recently replaced this heater with an electric convection type radiator however I immediately regretted it as I much prefer the radiant heat effect of the RPX so want to go back to having a radiant heat source.

Does anyone know if this aspect of the Dimplex RPX has been improved over the years or whether there are any other decent radiant heat electric panel heaters that are silent (as much as is possible) in a similar price range?

Turn the heater of whilst sleeping. You should be under the covers and hardly feel the effect of the heat. Use an electric blanket instead. The warmth will be felt for much less cost.

Which is fair enough, but it doesn't answer the ops query. It's nice to wake to a warm room, so the problem still exists early in the morning.

Op, some heaters now have electronic thermostats, which would be silent, but I haven't looked around to see what radiant heaters exist. Try looking on eBay or Amazon for a good quality radiant heater with a digital control.

The relay will still go "tick" and at night with everything silent the sound of the relay is very loud.

Wrong. Electronic heaters use triacs, not relays to switch. There are no mechanical parts on the control circuits, hence no noise.
