Need to help elderly parents - Secrets out!!

I salute you Bella54! I'm helping my mother with her debts, I found out about it when I moved back home, and didn't realise how bad the situation had got. She's now really happy that I'm helping and it's relieved some stress from her. This site is brilliant, and the best advice I can give for your parents is to have them watch all of Martins videos from YouTube and try to direct them to this site as much as possible!
Good luck! When someone calls you, you don't need to confirm a damn thing. The person who called you however, could be anyone.0 -
there is a bit about swift in CAG going way back to 2008 I think it is to 2013, may be worth a look? the thread is closed but on llast page it has a link to more updated stuff

Thank you all!!!!
I was beginning to think I had done the wrong thing coming here for help.
Good idea about the over paying. Never thought of that.
We are at the stage now of gathering information and then decide on plan of action.
Will be back looking for help when we get the paperwork.

Some people on here can be a bit blunt (and a few do jump to conclusions) but mostly people are here to help if people want to be helped. There is a lot of experience on here from a varied set of backgrounds and it's all free advice.
I would advise that you stick with it on here as people generally want to help and you are doing a great thing by trying to help your parents."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

On here you will find the same cross section of types of people as in the outside world - giving answers / opinions in all sorts of ways. Do the same as you would do in a face to face situation, listen to those who have rerad and understood and are able to give rational feedback / advice. For those who seem to be a bit blunt or full of their own importance or quick to criticise, just read what they say and set it aside.John0 -
estimate they have a total of 24K income between them and pay out £880 a month on loans and council tax
If this is net income, they should be able to manage OK. They are still left with £1100 a month to live on, which should be adequate for a decent, though not luxurious, retirement. The debtfreewanabe board on here has lots of tips and good advice for managing money.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
They are taxed on this so not net. They are struggling already and have missed payment and fees/charges have been added.
Its a bit of a mess really.0 -
Would it not be possible to sell the house to one of these company's that buy( albeit at a reduced price ) but then let you continue to stay in the house and rent it from them? This would hopefully free enough to clear the debt and let your parents stay in their home. I know these companies are frowned upon, but in this situation I wonder if it would be so bad.0

Pursue the PPI and arrears charges as complaints. Refer to the FOS if you don't make progress with the lenders.
But the secured loans won't go away. And it sounds like your parents have been serial over spenders in the past.
Selling up and renting may be the best solution to the debts themselves.0
