Digger, if you have experience of a particular bank it might be very helpful if you could share it. If it is the bank I am dealing with then it will be of very specific help. If it is not, it may still be generally helpful to me and perhaps others reading this who may be dealing with the bank where you have experience.

Get a solicitor involved. Or tell them that you will have to contact a solicitor. Maybe that will make them find it quicker.

why would you expect another user to name a bank when you aren't?

Thank you for the responses, suggestions and questions. I used them to pose questions to the bank. And eventually the box was located.

The things in this case that made a difference were (a) to go personally into branch; and (b) persisting with the line of questions around reference numbers. In effect it prompted the bank to do the things you might have expected it to do automatically. I saw no evidence things would not have been resolved otherwise.

So the forum has helped with my first post. Thanks once again.
