DIY fitted bathroom furniture carcasses

I've been looking at fitted furniture for my bathroom and it seems extremely expensive for what it is, hundreds to over a thousand pounds for just a small run containing a back-to-wall toilet cistern and hand basin.
I was thinking it might be money saving to make the carcass yourself out of ordinary furniture board and buy the doors and worktop separately. I have made bookcases etc like that so surely it would be the same sort of thing, or am I thinking along the wrong lines?

Should be no problem making bathroom units if you are handy with diy
Just get 12"/300mm white ( or coloured) contiplas .
Cut these to size to suit the height and the width of the units you require These are usually 600mm wide for the semi recessed sink unit and same for the cistern unit, the other units can be made to fit the remainder of the wall width/doors
Allow for notching the bottom of the units for the plinth board and for internal shelf, plus you will need recessed backs fitting to allow for pipework and to look better internal
Doors and handles to fit can be bought at various places, B&Q are easy, or if not, get 18mm mdf boards cut to size and round off the edges and paint
Try and buy a standard laminate worktop, possibly damaged to reduce the price and cut this down to a width to fit just over the units and doors.
Depending on the cistern, you may want to make a couple of cuts to the worktop to allow lift off access to the cistern, just glue edging on these to finish them off
If you have an odd size left that you cannot find a door to fit, this can be left as open shelving to hold folded towels or toilet rolls/etc
Have done this on most of my properties, and can usually fit out a 1800mm - 2m bathroom for the price of one single bought unit
Just needs a bit of thought to setting out the sizes to suit the doors
Good luck0 -
Some of the B&Q https://www.diy.com stuff goes on special offer fairly frequently perhaps just keep your eye on their website and wait for a price drop.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
