Black insulation tar (?) on dishwasher core

Recently pulled out the dishwasher to check the fuse as the power wasn't coming on. Removed the fuse and tested it with a multimeter which showed it was working. Put it back in the plug and the power is coming on now (not sure how that's happened...).

It looks like the black insulation tar (?) has melted where it's been pushed up against the plug socket and water pipe.

Should the insulation look all bobbled like that? We've been using the dishwasher for 7 years and mostly use it on the lowest (50 degree) setting.

When we put it back we'll make sure it's not in contact with the plug.

Mine's like that too. 2 year old beko. I don't think it's supposed to melt but it does. I think that's why when you get a new dishwasher it smells like burning plastic the first couple of times it's used.

Is there a source of heat near the dishwasher or on the wall behind?

Have you contacted the manufacturer about it?

I'd get that socket moved. That's a fire risk.

No heat sources near the dishwasher. The wall behind is an outside wall.

Haven't contacted the manufacturer yet. Figured I might get a faster response from someone in the know here :)

The dishwasher itself is a major heat source. The stories of them catching fire are legend. Get that socket moved. :)

Hi Ive just bought a swan dishwasher and the toxic smell is so bad that we cant use it as it is tainting our dishes.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did they fix this.

OP thats not heat damage, but the backing (black stuff) of the dishwasher has reacted with the plastic on both the plug and the water pipe, its not unusual to see but looks bad.

I would however change (or get someone else to) the plug for one made from a different material.
