Tesco credit card keeps getting reject from mobile network providers

I was with Giff-gaff PAYG and sometime last year they informed me that I could not use my Tesco CC (which I had been using previously for several months) as it failed their security checks. I recently moved over to 3 and when I tried to use the Tesco CC to top-up they stated the same thing. I tried to get them to explain what security measures it's failing on without success. I've checked with Tesco they say the card/credit etc is fine. Anyone else had these issues with network providers?

  • It depends on who declines the transaction.
There is a lot of fraud with mobile top ups so is Tesco declining the transaction (if so phone them up to confirm transaction) or is it 3?
  • My Tesco card was repeatedly rejected by a big clothing retailer but no explanation was given; it just went right through the ordering process then told me I should use a different card.

I can't recall how I found out, but since I enrolled in Verified by Visa - as demanded elsewhere or I was told my order would be blocked - it has been accepted everywhere. Maybe that's the issue?

I have checked with Tesco and the transaction does not reach their systems so the block is definitely at 3's end.

In that case have you checked that you have entered the correct pan number and cvv from back of card?

I've been told to enroll in VbV / Mastercard Securecode / Amex Safekey over 300 times in the past few years, and I just press cancel and have never had a problem. That said, I never top up a mobile.
