Farrow and Ball paint problem

Have just decorated with Farrow and Ball Estate emulsion. It needed three coats and I did lots of filling and sanding and washing down before painting.
When I removed the masking tape the paint peeled away. I've used a Stanley knife to remove the rest of the tape but will have to paint again where the paint has peeled away. It looks as if the new paint has not adhered well to the wall.
Should I have used something different to masking tape and should I have peeled it off before the paint was dry rather than leaving it for 24hrs. ?
I haven't had problems with Dulux paint and masking tape.

Depends on the type of tape and how long it was left on. You can buy special low tack masking tapes for painting.

Take the tape off as soon as you have applied the paint.

  • I'd remove the tape ASAP and keep your hand closely against the wall so the tape is being pulled back over itself so to speak

Thank you keystone, I havepoken and myser for your replies. I used basic masking tape from a diy store. The painting took two days in total so the masking tape was on for three days. Oh well I will know next time.
nickj, I wouldn't use Farrow and Ball again although the depth of colour and finish is excellent. It's just not user friendly.

just get it scanned in dulux , they will have the nearest colour in their range , unless you're uber fussy then you won't notice the difference apart from price , i believe the crown system will mix an exact formula and johnstones machines have all the F&B range already programmed ,
most of my customers do like f&b , but i always try and talk them out of it due to the hassle that goes with it ,

I was thinking of using F&B black gloss on my front door...is it really glossy, rich looking black and with depth? I know people rave about it....but I'm wondering if the price is worth it. Also, why is it so difficult to paint with?

Hello fraise, if you do a google search on F&B, various DIY forums and mumsnet will bring up lots of posts. I can't comment personally on the gloss but I think it's because of the reduction of VOCs in paint which means the gloss has less oil and so isn't as hardwearing as it was pre 2010.
