iPhone/iTune backup question?

Afternoon all,
I had to move everything from my wifes's old 3GS to her new iPhone 5 yesterday, which took about 5 hours and an hour+ call to Apple for all kinds of problems.
I thought it was sorted, but we've just found that none of her calender entries have been transferred from the 3Gs to 5!
Does anyone know; 1; should the backup of the 3GS on iTunes have captured the calender info and restored it to the 5?
2; Is there another program that'll do the job has I have no faith in iTunes doing what it's supposed to?
I've seen a couple of packages called Copytrans and Touchcopy, that say they'll work on the calender. Anyone use them?
Thanks...

Yes calendars should have been transferred.
The only things which aren't are sent emails and passwords.
Paid music can need special attention.
I don't know how you have got yourself in a mess. The old phone should have been backed up to iTunes.
Then when u get the new one out the box choose the option restore from iTunes.0 -
My iphone 4s wont back up at all. According to Google, same for millions of other users and Apple admit to nothing. You have my sympathies.0

We're in this mass because iTunes doesn't actually do what it says its doing.
Last time we used it to backup, it said it had, we took the phone off and my wife opened her notes (which she'd been compiling over the last 3 months). The list ran down the screen and then cleared as everything was deleted !
No, problem, just go to the backup, right? In fact no, because iTunes hadn't actually backed anything up, it just said it had. So 3 months of work down the tubes.
Now Apple say there a problem with backup and restore if you're using a 3GS to 5 using windows 7!
Just two of the reasons I loath all Apple products. Unfortunately my wife's a big fan, so I'm stuck having to work around their appalling software.
So, any recommendations on what to use to take the calender info from one phone and transfer it to a second??0
