charges week after buying car

Options
Hi
We bought a used car a few weeks back. It was a small family business who seem to have lots of different business's - wedding car hire, driving etc

So the total was £3979. We said we could get the cash out but they said it was easier to pay with debit card. we paid £100 deposit on our debit card on the 7th Oct and the balance of £3879 on 10th Oct when the car was delivered to us.

I have just been onto my bank online and have seen that another transaction was taken on the 17th Oct so a week after we purchased the car for £147.99?
It just says the business name from who we bought car off?

Nothing was ever mentioned about charges for paying on card and how can they take them a weak later?
Also my husband had to enter his pin number on their card machine for the £100 deposit and £3879 balance so how have they been able to take more without him putting pin in?

Trying to get through to them but no ones answering as its Sunday

Any ideas?
Thanks

You really need to ask the seller what the extra £147.99 was for, don't you?
If they cannot give you a satisfactory answer, raise it with your bank as an unauthorised transaction.

I cannot imagine that anyone here will be able to say why they have charged that amount.

Yes it is possible to process these things without the cardholder entering their pin... as you have found out. :D

You really should have paid the deposit by CC. Even if its just for the protection it gives you.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Just tell them the £147 wasn't ever mentioned prior to the conclusion of the contract so they cannot now retrospectively change the terms of the agreement.

If the transaction was chip and pin for £147 might be quite difficult to get the bank to refund that! if it wasn't then the bank should retrieve that money for you.

It is easy to charge money on a pinpad without the card present! its a cardholder not present transaction, normally used for over the phone transactions.

All they need is the long number, expriy date, CSV number(back of the card), First line of your address and the postcode,

Also double check your invoice to make sure there are no T's and C's on their about charges, but really the dealership should have told you about this extra charge!

Maybe they just made a mistake...
    ewwwww what is that...

Put your complaint /issue in writing to the garage and if no joy then take it up with your card issuer.
It might be worth phoning the card issuer to find out how long you have to start proceedings for an unauthorised transaction as you don't want to be out of time.
