My sons laptop is broken (have had it at the repair shop and its not economic to repair) and I have said I'll buy him a new one as an early Christmas Present. I am looking to get something along the lines of his old one.... Acer 5740. I was wondering about a refurbished one as I do not want to spend any more than necessary. Anyone seen any bargains or got any advice. Thanks

Thanks for advice so far, unfortunately the above deal has expired!
Generally he is a uni student, uses his laptop for course work, downloading music, watching films. He liked the larger screen on his old Laptop0 -

You still haven't told us of the problems experienced with the old laptop.0 -
The old laptop will not turn on. It has been stripped down to the board and shorted components replaced but still not turning on, prob a failed micro chip.0
