use Win7 Pro or Ultimate!!!!
don't go near Win8 for at least another 12 months to get all the bugs out of the way (MS have said that the 8.1 update can cause BSOD on some systems after updating)Laters

Any thoughts on screen / keyboard / mouse - I find them usefull!
many people have these laying around from a previous in use system.
a screen you can set aside £150 from any budget for a decent hdmi led one or get a second hand one from fleabay or FB.
the bulk of your budget should always be whats in your case not around it.0 -

haha sorry about that, as someone said i am used to things like that already being there (i think i have at least 2 spare of most of those bits) anyways mouse and keyboard can be picked up for about £10 if your happy with cheapies montior wise well this is a personal choice and can be had from £70+
things to drop in spec would probably be the graphics card to 650, and if you do not plan on doing any form of overclocking then you can drop the cooler to stock and drop down a CPU (no need for a k series processor if you dont overclock) and move to a 1tb hard drive which drops the base price to £640Drop a brand challenge
