Gas Compensation

We had Gas supply works back in march this year. There was a dispute on where the services where going to be moved to and and I was left without gas for over 3 days without gas during sub zero temperatures. Heating arrangements was requested but never arrived. I have been offered £200 compensation for the loss of service but the hours I spent phoning, emailing and waiting around for visits should also be compensated for.

The Gas ombudsmen has expressed they cannot make them pay more than the £30 per day loss of service. I feel a bit cheated here and would like some advice on whether I could take this further.

you can always take something further....
go to a small claims, detail your losses, and the judge decide.
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

You poor poor thing. I wondered what people did before Gas Central Heating?

As per the previous respondent, take things to a small claims court and let a magistrate decide, if you feel suitably aggrieved.

Seriously? It is the telecoms forums you should post to if you spent more than £110 on those calls.

£30 is more than 200 kWh of electricity.

What is it that makes you think you have been cheated?
  • Sorry I feel my points been missed here. I'm not asking for compensation on the phone bill but the time I have spent phoning various different phone numbers to resolve a problem that shouldn't have arisen in the first place. I had to wait in 4 mornings for meetings with the works foreman. All I wanted from these people was written confirmation, and no one wanted to commit, so they decided to play the waiting game and try and bully me into just accepting the changes they wanted to make. I appreciate the compensation is a bit petty but 15 hours of my time spent waiting for phone calls and meetings is not on.
  • Then invoice the company(ies) for your time. I doubt you'd get far, but the occasional claim comes off.

Give them 2 weeks to respond, if nothing take it to small claims. I really, really don't fancy your chances though.
  • That's what I wanted to know. If there's slim to none chance of a positive outcome from small claims then I wont waste any more time and money on the whole matter. The lady at citizens advice said that I would have been able to claim but I did fear she was being a bit over optimistic. Thanks for the replies anyway!

EDIT: I did already invoice national grid for the time, and was refused.
