Pc problem at start up

After one of my kids clicked on a pop up my computer now shows a blue screen at every start up saying that on of the disks needs checking (c), it says you may cancel by pressing any key which I do and then I am able to go on the computer as normal (but it has been slower) I tried letting it check but it never gets anywhere ! How can I get rid of this ? Thanks.

I suggest you open command.exe as admin, and type CHKDSK C: /r (then hit return)
This will scan and repair and disk integrity problems, or so they reckon.

It will prompt you to run at next reboot, so answer yes to that, then reboot.

Another to try running is: SFC /scannow [return] to check windows system files.

worth a try. post back if no joy!

I trust of course you have anti-virus software, but that is another matter I suspect
    Friendly greeting!
  • if you haven't AV s/w, here's a link. Always make sure you choose the "free" option:

Avast is fine so long as you have the latest updates.

Press F8 when your computer starts up and select Safe Mode.

Run a full anti-virus scan with Avast and a chkdsk as detailed by 'danthemoneysavingman' above.
If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button! ;)

Lots of blind alleys, OP has avast AV already, and needs to complete the chkdsk at boot.

Backup your data in case the disk is on it's way out, and create the windows disc if you dont have one.

Scan with malwarebytes for a second opinion http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

make and model of machine, and operating system?
