Taking up Knitting again

I haven't knitted for years but (call it old age) I'm thinking about starting again.

Can anyone recommed what sort of patterns I should be looking at? I thought of trying baby / toddler items but would these be more tricker than say a simple adult jumper?

What did you like to knit before?
For a beginner I would recommend things like scarves as they can be very easy and straightforward, then you can jazz them up with techniques such as cable and fair isle as you gain more skills.
Homewares can also be quite fun. There are lots of free patterns for things like cushion covers and throws which knit up pretty fast in chunky wool. I think if you are restarting knitting, it might be a good idea to do projects that are quick, so you dont get bored or stuck. Baby clothes will definitely be better for this than adult jumpers, but they could be more fiddly as they are smaller (I have never made baby things as I don't know any babies!)
If you search for free patterns online you will find loads. Have a look at the websites of magazines like Let's Knit as they have free patterns and also videos on techniques that might jog your memory of all the stitches you used to know!
Good luck and have fun :)

I stopped knitting years ago when my brats started to get older ( I only like knitting small quick things :p ), I now have numerous grandbrats :( and I wanted to knit again. I came across some free patterns for Christmas stockings that you can hang on the tree which went down really well with my family and friends, I found them on Jean Greenhowe's site http://www.jeangreenhowe.com/patterns.html, there's also a couple of free patterns on Alan dart's site including this Christmas one http://www.alandart.co.uk/product/all-patterns/furry-fairiesfree/, as soon as I've knitted the angels one of my grandbrats claims it, I'm kind of hooked on Alan darts patterns and have quite a few of them now.

I've done wrist warmers, snoods, scarves and a couple of hats since I re-started about 3 years ago. Haven't yet summoned up the nerve to tackle anything bigger...

Check out Ravelry.com - an absolute wealth of patterns......you'll need to sign up but it's free.

I started with scarves (find the loopy scarf pattern - it's fab!), then progressed to mittens, hats and baby stuff. Now it's animals (Sarah Keen patterns)....

    Happy knitting!!

I've just been knitting little hats for the Innocent big knit campaign, each one sold on their bottles during November raises 25p for Age UK. Thoroughly enjoyed doing them and will certainly do more next year, Xmas theme next time for me. If you google Jo's big knit, she has loads of patterns to copy. Too late I'm afraid for this year as they have to be sent to Innocent by 31st October, but some people knit all your round for this worthwhile cause and it uses all your old scraps of wool up.
