Where can I buy the cheapest carpet underlay?

CarpetRight have an 'up to 50% off' sale on at the mo, but I don't think this extends to their underlay. Can anyone recommend a cheaper way of buying it, perhaps direct from the manufacturer?

I've just 'Googled' and found Carpet Underlay World (https://www.carpetunderlayworld.co.uk) and their sister company Underpriced Underlay (https://www.underpricedunderlay.co.uk). They provide price comparisons for CarpetRight which show savings up to 52% which is pretty ruddy good!

This has certainly saved me a few bob, hope it saves you some too! :T

we bought from teh first of those links earlier this year much for teh same reasons. Just laid the remainder in a second room to save a further fortune from carpetright

(much like their £25 delivery charge which is a flat rate regardless of 1 carpet or 10 carpets. W said we'd collect the single carpet and they said they would waive it 'this time'/ The carpet fitter turned up with carpet and explained how they don't get any delivery fee, teh £25 is for carpetright only, I'd be sorely tempted to hire own fitters in future to go and collect the carpet as they'r elikely to be the ones contracted to carpetrighta nyway)

It's a false economy to lay cheap underlay under a good carpet, particularly in a hard wear area. It will dramatically shorten the life of the carpet.

When we last bought underlay we went to B&Q they did 3 different thicknesses at varying prices. A lot cheaper than carpet shops.

The situation is bit like travel agents with travel insurance because you bought the main product their they will sting you as much as poss for the add ons. In this instance the underlay.

I always get my underlay from Ebay - there are loads on there, I always use the foam stuff, it's much lighter and better underfoot (imho). Also get your gripper rods and door bars from screwfix - much, much cheaper than carpet right!

True, but you can get good quality cheaply like the op wants to.

I would have thought 90% of people who buy carpets get the underlay from the shop at the same time thats why its expensive in CarpetRight and AlliedCarpets as they can get away with it.

That's true.

If you go and look at more expensive or local carpet shops for carpets you will find that the underlay is the same price or even cheaper than in places like CarpetRight and AlliedCarpets.

I have just had new carpet laid in my four bedrooms. I had the same neutral coloured carpet in each one. I went to a local independent carpet shop and chose from what he had in stock. The price was very reasonable and the service excellent. Best of all, I did not pay a penny until the work was completed to my satisfaction.

The fitters did an excellent job and although I removed as much stuff from the rooms as possible, they happily shifted things and put them back when they were done.

The moral of the story, try a local retailer before going to the big superstores.
