Energy Hikes - Can we do anything about it?
Hi - I've just done my comparison, and it seems all of them are way over what I'm currently on (SP Online Fix Jan14) although it runs out soon. Pretty much a few hundred pounds more per year for me.
I just don't understand how they are getting away with this - is there ANYTHING we can do about it?
I mean how do these people sleep at night as they profit out of making the majority of people afraid of putting their heating on? Mums with children - old folk - staying warm is a basic human need.
It seems the level of profit they are making far outweighs investment for new power sources. It's unbalanced - and it's ridiculous when they pull another monkey spokesperson from their cage to try to justify their disgusting criminal-level greed. (Apologies to monkeys)

Are mums with children different from fathers with children? Old folk receive generous provisions. One way of reducing bills would be to withdraw unnecessary subsidies from parents and old folk.0

Glad to see that you have thought about the children :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:It seems the level of profit they are making far outweighs investment for new power sources.
On what do you base that statement - something you read in the Daily Mail ?
I don't have much time for the energy suppliers - but many of "facts" that are splashed about in the media are either just incorrect or plain misleading. It doesn't help when these facts are repeated parrot like at every turn. It destroys much of the credibility of the argument AGAINST the suppliers if people can't even quote accurate facts !
The TRUE profit made by the energy companies (profit on turnover) is less than the supermarkets and the mobile phone companies.
Two years ago there was a huge (media) outcry because the energy companies had increased their profit per customer from £25 to £125 (leak from Ofgem - wonder who arranged that ?) - sounds shocking doesn't it ?? Yet a few months previously their profits had gone from £125 to £25 - how much publicity did that get ? ZILCH ! Of no interest to the Daily Wail.........
This profit per customer figure varies quite literally from day to day - therefore it is a totally meaningless figure to quote as the overall profitability of a company. Tesco's profits per customer soar on Fridays and Saturdays - and they are making more than the energy companies anyway!
By all means beat the energy companies round the head (metaphorically, that is
) but with FACTS, not incorrect, poorly researched, bunkum from yesterday's papers............. 0 -
You could convert to lpg, it won't save you any money but it may help you realise what an incredible bargain you are getting with natural gas!
I'm not happy about my leccy prices rising but not too much recently has been down to my provider. The people moaned, ofgem said remove high and low tariffs, hey presto that's my bill up 25 %. I used to work for an energy company and get 5% discount, ofgem said unfair...up it goes again.0 -

I would argue food is singularly more of a human need (the homeless live without gas). Yet, we hardly bat an eyelid at the profits supermarkets, butchers, greengrocers and the like make.

I know of many pensioners who live in dire poverty and do not receive 'generous provisions'.
Sure, there may be your hated pensioners who have provided for themselves and who are not poor – but many others are in a very bad way. There are also many 'families' who foolishly overspend to achieve the 'must-have' life styles thrown at them in advertising, and are consequently struggling, just the same as there are some families that are genuinely struggling in areas where there is a lack of work (or an unwillingness to work for whatever reason).
Instead of spouting forth ignorant remarks, look around you and do some research (though no doubt that would not be convenient for you). Are mums with children different from fathers with children? Old folk receive generous provisions. One way of reducing bills would be to withdraw unnecessary subsidies from parents and old folk.0
