As unholyangel said, I am entitled to some kind of discount to compensate not being able to use the service I'm paying for.

Have you asked them for a discount for the days you couldn't use their service?
  • Hi,

I used to work at Virgin Media.

If you can, you might want to advise them (if you have the details) where the ex tenant now lives - as at least that way they can start to chase them direct for the equipment. Otherwise my concern is you may start to get bills sent to your address for the non return of items.

    Best.

I wouldn't worry about it, the bills won't be in the OP's name so they can just be returned marked 'not at this address', presumably eventually VM will get the hint.

Doubt it - I keep getting unsolicited marketing crap from VM addressed to "The Householder" or some such even though I keep telling VM that I don't want it or their services and they keep telling me they'll stop it.

Well yes, of course. Except they took the box TODAY. You haven't said when you are getting it back, but given they took it today then you were clearly looking for more than service loss compensation. Its only 12 minutes to three in the afternoon!

    I can beat that.

They mail me the offer with my details all over it so I have to shred it to get rid of it. Three days later I get the SAME offer on a blanket 'to the householder' mailing.

They should be fined. Lots. And those plastic clothes bag pushers aswell should have to pay. rant over. :D

Whenever I get the 'The Householder' letters from them I put 'Not at This Address' on it and send it back. Mr (or Mrs, Miss or Ms) Householder does not live here.

If you politely ask them for a refund of the few days you don't have access to the box and the hassle of having to phone them they will probably offer you a £10 or so credit plus the amount for however many days you were without. To be honest it was not their fault your friend let them in. (I would also not be happy with friend for letting previous tenant in without your permission).

I have always found them very reasonable if you stay polite, going in all guns blazing about how they should have done "this and that" and all they have to do is give you a credit for the service.

PS: Its not theft since it belongs to them.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.
  • I do not understand how the Virgin Media engineer turned up WITH the ex-tenant. How would that work ? ...

Didn't see that the ex-tenant came round as well. Something does not add up there at all!
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.
