It has been noted that ebay's share price has dropped 5% over the last month, as have the number of listings.
Where does the info re number of listings come from? The share price stat is a bit odd as most US shares are down over the last month, for obvious reasons. A good comparison would be to last year where Ebay's are up 10%.

I can understand why you would want Ebid to do well but to try and marry that up to Ebay 'failing' is a bit odd. I've never been convinced that the owners of Ebid want any kind of big growth to compete with Ebay, not a criticism, just an observation.

Both sites need to do well for the sake of their respective users.

I totally agree and i also agree with some of the posts on the Ebid forums that perhaps it is time for Ebid to actually reconsider the no advertising stance or change their model in some other way.

I realise that changes cost money but Ebid have gained very little momentum in all the years they have been trading. eBay are making it easier and easier for another site to get in and pull buyers . If Ebid can get some buyers then the sellers may be more positive about the site. Ebid seems happy to just sit there and take disgruntled eBay sellers and even warn them by way of the forums not to expect too much and to keep their eBay account as well.

I'm sure many of us would welcome a credible alternative site to eBay , not necessarily to replace it but to use as a second outlet for our goods. Unfortunately at the moment ebid seems stuck with just getting sellers to take out lifetime membership and then abandoning them.

Amazon currently seem to be attracting a lot of eBay sellers, manly as a second selling site, despite their fees being higher than eBay in many cases. I would be using amazon like a shot if my goods were suitable for that site, which at the moment they are not.

  • I am trying out several venues including my own website (only just started on that). Too early to say which ones I'll stick with.

Its been a difficult year for various reasons; personal & health as well as the economy. Ebay fees and postage prices have just added to my difficulties.

There are many thousands of disgruntled Ebay sellers out there looking for a new home. Ebid is too like Ebay for my liking. They have no USP.

I think the market will splinter into more specialized venues and more sellers will list on more than one site. I'm reading a lot about multichannel.

I bought my first item on Ebid this week. Smooth transaction. I made a very low offer on a BiN item. Seller made a couple of quid by charging for Royal Mail and sending by MyHermes. A twisted way of making a buck when FVF is only 3%. Despite that it was still a good deal for me as I got it so cheap. Shows how desperate the seller was. I feel sorry for them.
