My son's home from uni and has brought home his imac. He wants to add my modem to his mac and has installed the software. On rebooting and connecting the modem the mac doesn't detect it, there is no prompt. Anyone offer advice on how to add the modem manually or how to connect otherwise.
His o/s is OSX 10.4.7.
Any help appreciated,
Lynsey

Which modem is it? OSX can be a bit flaky with USB modems.
Have you got a router he can connect to via ethernet or Airport (wireless)?
How's he finding the iMac BTW? I remember your original thread about it0 -
Thanks again Nicky. He loves his imac and says it makes his course work a lot easier. He's still finding his way around certain things. It seems to have been a great investment.
At his flat they have a router which makes things easier. The modem which needs connecting is a "Speedtouch", which he is having problems with.
Maybe I should invest in a router, it would make things easier and of course tidier.
Thanks again,

You can download the latest drivers for 10.4 here.
Make sure it's plugged directly into the iMac, not through a powered hub.
TBH a router is a good buy. The Speedtouch can cause all sorts of annoyances with OSX. You'll need a router anyway if you want to connect 2 computers to the net at the same time (although there is a way to connect via the iMac).
EDIT: Just realised that that link goes to the main page not the specific driver page. Stupid Thomson0 -
I think a router will be the best option. As you say it gives an option of using two pc's at the same time.
What you you think of this one??

Will it be suitable??
