Comparison with only a few months usage

Moved into our property at the start of May and we are on BG dual fuel standard variable tariff. Because of this, we obviously cannot get a good average consumption for comparison.

We are looking to fix and have noticed that Scottish power have a fixed deal until March 2015 with gas at about 3.5p a unit (BG is 4.6) and electric at about 11p (BG 18p!)

Can we switch now just by comparing the unit costs considering we only have summer energy usage to go by?

  • If youve got the usage figures for the few months youve been with Bgas theres nothing to stop you looking at what the equivalent usage would cost you with Spower. If youre not on a fixed deal theres nothing to stop you moving and even if you are then as long as Spower contact Bgas to arrange change of supply within 15 days then you should be able to leave without a cancellation fee (if one applies). as for winter usage its ifs and buts. think ofgen usage 16500kwh gas and 3300kwh annual usage as medium user so you could do an annual comparison based on that.

Unit costs tell you nothing, as there are too many other variables, Use any comp site with your estimated annual kWh figures.

    sorry I don't understand,

assuming a same standing charge, a tariff that has less price per unit will work out cheaper whether you use 1000 units or 5000 units?
