Set up a DD for the minimum payment then, as long as their are funds in your bank account, any lateness is down to them and you cannot forget.

Well done for that, and well done to MBNA.

Apart from setting up a direct debit for the minimum amount which would put the responsibility on MBNA to take the money when it is due.

I didnt set up a DD because I wanted to pay more each month than the minimum but couldn't be sure exactly how much (depending on other bills etc...) - but from here on I'll set one up and that'll be it hopefully....:p

Alternatively, you can set up a 'Faster Payment' weeks in advance. Set it up soon after you receive the statement to leave your account two days before the payment is due.

Check the 'due' date on every statement as that can fluctuate, something like two days in either direction.

A DD will sort out the "contract" side and you can then pay whatever you want whenever you have some spare.

I've used credit cards for 30+ years and I have never paid any of them late, but have had the invention of such things by MBNA. Talking about this with friends, they share similar experiences with MBNA and someone else said it happens everywhere, her Amazon Card does the same! Basically avoid any Bank of America cards, with two minutes of searching it appears it is part of their business plan to generate false fees and offered special deals disappear because of allegedly late payments.

Their payment timescales are very clear, both on their website secure area and on the back of the statement.

The OP paid late, and admits it.

Others can choose to avoid them if they wish. Then again, they could also simply just pay the bill on day 1...or day 2...or day 3...in fact anytime up to day 25 or so and keep their 0% rate. They could also set up a DD and pay it even later. But if you sail close to the wind then you're asking for trouble with all lenders, not just MBNA!

I sent a faster payment to MBNA and it took 4 days to credit, hardly "faster", it was back dated though when it did finally arrive. Pay a good few days early to be on the safe side.
Make £10 a day challenge in Feb £325.82/£280
    March £78/£310
  • How did you make the payment?

A 'Faster Payment' transfer would have gone through without problems. If you pay on the website using a Debit Card, that will take something like 2 or 3 days and a cheque (God forbid) would take something like a week.

In fact when I worked for MBNA I used to advise customers to leave 7-10 working days for a cheque. If a cheque is delayed in the post, that's viewed as the customer's fault. Debit card transactions often take 3 working says, as you've said. FPO didn't actually exist (or at least, wasn't a service offered by most highstreet banks) when I worked there, but I would imagine MBNA's policy would still be to advise people to allow at least 3 working days for it.

It's still easy to stick to T&Cs to retain an offer.

    So no need to avoid.
