Locked in to British gas?
I called British gas to see if I was tied in or whether I could switch. I was informed that because I had switched to online energy tariff last year I was locked in until Jan 14 and had to pay £30 each for both gas and electricity to escape. Looking at the British gas app I saw I could switch for free to their clear and simple plan. This has no ties. I intend to wait until the plan has been changed ( they advised it should be tomorrow) then go for a 4 yr fix elsewhere. Anyone else done this?

I believe you can leave without exit fees if they put prices up
Once a customer becomes aware about a change to their energy contract (through a public announcement or individual notification), they can notify their supplier that they intend to switch in order avoid the effects of those changes at anytime on or before the date the change is scheduled to become effective.

Yes, perfectly legit, as long as the ETC on your existing tariff allows you to switch to another BG tariff without penalty.
Price rises are not relevant if so.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
