Inherited alarm system in new house

Hello everyone,

Background
We've been fortunate enough to purchase our first home. It's been fitted with an alarm system. When we spoke with the owner they didn't use it and didn't have a code for it. We assume it was fitted by the people before them.

We'd like to use it but have no idea where to go from here.

On the box outside it says it's a GIE alarm. I've googled that and don't find anything. There is also a mobile phone number which I've googled and again, no results. I'm reluctant to ring the number as I suspect it's probably been reallocated and I don't want to bother some poor person.

I think the system is probably pretty old, as it's got that 'plastic which is now cream but used to be white' look to it.

Issue
Has anyone heard of GIE alarms?

or

As I can't seem to contact the company I'm not sure how to proceed. Is it easier to just get someone to remove the old system and fit a new one?

I was in a similar situation and I just bought a replacement alarm panel using the existing wiring and sensors etc. if you're not confident, it's probably better to get someone in to replace it and/ or check it over.

You need to look at the alarm panel for the make and model. If you can post a photo here, it would help.

The name on the siren box outside won't tell you much as it's will most-likely be the name of the company that installed it.

Chances are, the panel and siren batteries will need to be replaced as a start hence why the previous owners didn't bother using it.

There may also be a fault with one or more of the zones causing a false alarm.
If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button! ;)
