Bounced cheques

Hiya!

I paid to have my cat flap fitted by cheque. Unfortunately, it was just before pay day and it bounced I paid the fine from the bank, I'm OK with that, it was my fault and so on.

However, the company that did it are trying to charge me for it bouncing - I didn't know that the bank charged both parties!

Also, they fitted it the wrong way round to start with so they had to come back a second time.

Am I justified in refusing to pay the additional £10?

Business accounts are often charged for bounced cheques, so the company is passing on that charge to you. At the moment they are £10 down due to your error.
They rectified their mistake and you now have a working cat flap, I don't see why you shouldn't pay them.

Why should the company pay for your financial mismanagement? It may sound harsh, but that's what it boils down to.

I would say £10 is reasonable for the bank fee and time to resolve it with you.
