I had to learn how to use access about 9 years ago - had 2 days to learn and become proficient! needed to calculate averages, Z scores, quintile percent bandings etc all from raw data that came from excel! By the time I'd finished modifying it, inputting data etc, I figured I'd had a trial by fire with it! Even now, the University will export results into my database for some validation tasks!

I've tried If,then, else and that calculated a random result, tried lookup, but thinking about it Hlookup might be a better option. I'll try that. Thanks

I might give Access another go then..Give us a shout if you get stuck on your lookups!

Today I got five letters from halifax, and it was great that not one of them was asking for charges..lmao That in itself deserves a drink

That's great penny and yes it does deserve a drink. I got my tax credit renewal and I didn't have an overpayment :T

Sammy, just thought, I've got a happy computers Access guide at work (or you can google 'happy computers' and download it. It's in a similar style to the 'for dummies' series, but useful to learn how to do something! I'm searching for the excel version right now! Can't believe I didn't think of it earlier:doh:!

I wondered if I might get a tax refund. I was made redundant on the 6 May and have paid some tax up to then. Wonder if I qualify for it back (and when I'd get it!)

I know, I opened it before I was fully awake and though I'll deal with this when I've had a coffee. I then spent half an hour trying to find the bit where is says you owe us £xxxx.xx. I'm sure they'll ask for double next year:rotfl:

I bet you would Keren, I would phone the tax office and ask. Don't expect a sensible answer on the first go though

Sammy, Hlookup worked! had to modify it slightly by adding absolute referencing to it, but that part works like a charm! Thanks for the tip - ps I PMd you with the happy computers link.

for me it is...lol. Before now if I ever had atleast two evelopes from Halifax, one was normally to tell me about some charge. Pretty impressed actually as all this is from the same day when I did a mystery shop at Halifax, one payment transaction set up, two regular saver accounts opened for kids, one that i did wrong closed so just a running statement for its short life, and these are the tax free registaration things, and an online account info. Well since I had an MS to do there, thought I would get EVERYTHING sorted:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
