we went to IOW for the day a few weeks ago with the car - cost about 40 quid IIRC. It's about an hour each way out of So'ton so not hugely expensive at all.
If you have a specific reason for going to the IOW (as we did) then surely you've factored it in as necessary?

Day returns are far cheaper than period returns but seeing that you can get a day return from Dover to Calais for a car and up to 9 passengers**, your price rather proves my point.

    ETA

Oop - missed out the price!

    **£19

Also, if you have relatives living on the Island, ask them to keep a look out in the IOW County Press because there are often coupons for discounted short breaks for friends and family.

except that the OP needs to go to the IOW so whatever point you are trying to prove is totally irrelevant and completely unhelpful to the OP. Why DO you waste the oxygen?

And your constructive responses to the OP have been what exactly?

Although, given that I spent some time looking up coach fares for her and passed on some local information that she might not have known, it's interesting to see whose posts she's chosen to thank.

    Typical MSE ingratitude.

I apologise, I was addressing Dunroamin's response but on re-reading the thread I now realise I should have included you as well, sorry you felt left out.

  • If you have a Tesco Clubcard and assuming you have accumulated enough points, consider using Wightlink Ferries where £10.00 in Clubcard vouchers = £30.00 in Clubcard tokens to spend on the cost of the ferry crossing.

We took out car a couple of years ago i don't remember the prices being that bad and we certainly appreciated having it when we were over there we drove all over the island. I'd rather drive than use trains & buses. Especially in cold & windy February.

Op I'm also wondering are your dates in half term as that could increase that price.
