Hello lads and lasses,
I`m more used to giving advice on here, rather than receiving it, but a situation has developed that I would like to share with you as a bad example of the debt collection process.
I`d just like to say that the amount of money in question is only £50.00, but that's not the issue, I will explain further, long story cut short, marriage breakup, needed cash, borrowed £150 from a payday lender, debt card was stolen, reported theft, result was loan was payed (in full) 10 days late, they added a late payment fee, which I payed, debt settled ?, well no actually, they said I still owed £50 ??? I asked for clarification, got a long winded email, apparently they had added more interest to the loan and a £30 fee, as I had kept them informed as to my position, I thought this was unfair, and said so, no response, roll forward 6 months the lovely people at motor mile finance have been assigned my "debt" sent proveit no response, had letters threatening doorstep collection blah blah blah, then yesterday they rang my employer..........and spoke to my boss........and two other members of staff.......about my personal business, the guy on the phone then said, and I quote " we will come round and empty your office, take your tv etc to settle the debt" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I would be laughing if I wasn't so bloody annoyed, where do they get off thinking they can getaway with this behaviour ? very luckily I have an understanding boss, but I had to explain myself to her as at first they thought I`d run up a hugh debt on the company creditcard or some thing, today I have phoned the FOS to get the ball rolling with a complaint, is there anything else I can do, short of driving down to there offices with a tractor and a muck spreader ????

Lucky that your boss is reasonable and allowed you to explain about it.

No, am not worried in the slightest, have defeated a lot worse than these chancers, its just the way they deliberately disregard due process, I am sure there are more people who have been hassled in this way, debt collectors ringing your boss and telling them your life history is something im not going to let them get away with, if I can prevent them doing it to some poor soul who hasn't got such an understanding boss as me, then its worth the complaint.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. As you know, complaining to them and the FOS will cost them the referral fee.
Report to OFT. Probably not achieve a great deal.
Talk to ICO. You have grounds for complaint, but given your boss is likely to help you, ask the ICO about small claims possibilities.:beer:0 -
hey sourcrates!!!!
Welcome to the MMF 'fan' club. They only contact my OH through email and (before he blocked them) on his mobile and they haven't replied to the prove it letter, their latest email was one of their customer service greats :
Unless you contact us to discuss the account, then there is little option open to us other than to arrange a home visit (their emphasis) with a view to assessing your fiances and living standards.
Well, the won't be invited in for a cup of tea. Blooming bottom feeders!! Problem is theirs is a default so we will have to deal with them at some point. Has anyone ever actually tried to communicate properly with MMF and not just waited hoping the debt will be passed to another DCA?
I think them calling your work number Sourcrates was very underhand and disgusting. Can't believe these people have a license to conduct business. Hope you get it sorted.

Hey thanks for the welcome, lol, the thing is, were talking only £50 quid here, and its 50 quid I do not owe, I had that doorstep letter too, I live in the country so I wished them good luck with that one :rotfl: am going to ring the Information commissioners helpline today to see how much more grief I can cause them, you see if they had been reasonable with me, then in return I would extend them the same courtesy, but this contacting my employer thing has crossed the line and I`m not letting it go.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. So they've sent harassing letters about collecting via a method they can't legally enforce, discovered your workplace phone number, broken the data protection act with your boss and co-workers, causing undue stress and humiliation (theoretically speaking)......
They sound lovely. I hope they go bust.0
