Help with freshly plastered walls

Read back to my previous post.....
You can go over the silk with Soft Sheen, leave for a couple of days then go over with your matt.
Loobysaver.... yes you have been quite lucky, but when you come to repaint the walls and if you decide to use matt, the chances are your paint underneath will wrap round your roller in strips and you will be taking the silk off as your trying to paint with the matt.
if you ever did decide to go for Matt, follow the advice I gave chicken, I have done this quite a few times in my job.
I'm getting worried now as we want to redecorate our hall, stairs and landing soon. If I decorate again using silk paint will that work or will that still cause problems?0 -
It's not the finish that's the problem, it's whether it's a vinyl emulsion or not.
Vinyl emulsion doesn't adhere properly to new plaster...just sits on top, which is why it peels off. By using a mist coat first that soaks in to the plaster you give the vinyl emulsion something to key to. A mist coat is either a thinned down coat (by about 10% with water) or a cheap emulsion usually matt but you can buy silk that isn't vinyl. You don't need to remove all the paint, just give a really good rub down.
Hope that helps if you need any more advice just ask...I've got a paint shop so I can probably help!0 -
