Foods not allowed in pregnancy?

Brother in law and Mrs are coming for tea on Monday. They are both vegetarian, BIL is fussy, doesn't like spicy food, is milk intolerant, and SIL is easier to please but is pregnant (about 6 months now, I think). Any good ideas for 2 suitable courses please?

Foods to aviod
peanuts - could cause allergies
soft cheses- risk of listeria
shark, swordfish, marlin, fresh tuna - due to levels of mercury (canned should be ok but not more than 4 cans a week)
oysters and raw seafood (cooked should be ok)
also meat - liver, pate, parma ham
make sure you wash salad well, including prewashed bagged salads too due to possibility of listeria

hope this helps for foods to avoid
have a lovely meal !

Perhaps you could make some home made soup for one of the courses with some home baked bread. Shouldn't cause any troubles to any of the eating restrictions and fairly simple to make. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. I like the roasted veg lasagne idea very much too, thanks
Could serve with some nice herby or garlicky bread, liking the sound of that already.
Are eggs OK in pregnancy? (thinking about puddings now...)
Think 1st course needs to be something more substantial than soup, OH and I will be starving even if the IL's aren'tOfficial DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
Do not offer cheese like Brie etc. DD loves it but minute pregnant (baby due any day now - not allowed.) With other 2 pregnancies - have taken it as a treat for her. OK for breastfeeing!

Oh, and forgot to say, we will arrive home from work about 5.30 at the earliest, and they will land at 7, so anything that can be made tomorrow and reheated would be brilliant.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Hi newleaf,
Both soup (I'd go for something light like carrot and corriander) and a vegetable lasagne could easily be made tomorrow, then you'd just have to reheat them and throw a salad together on Monday night.

Re the eggs question as a bump lady myself I can confirm it is only raw or undercooked eggs you can't have. Cooked is all right as it kills any possible bugs.

Cheeses such as brie etc are okay IF COOKED THROUGH.
If in doubt do ask your SIL - I am pregnant but have eaten soft boiled eggs and tiramisu (cravings).0
