for a start don't use wmp use media player classic, vlc or winamp. Next I'd suggest uninstalling all codecs you have and install just 1 good codec pack such as k-lite or ffdshow. Then if still not working download a program called gspot which will tell you which codec you need for a specific file - just google for and install.0

Don't delete anything. Just use download and install ; http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
Once installed, you can 'right click' on your media files in order to get the codec needed.0 -
Yes do uninstall stuff or you may get conflicts if you've already tried installing stuff. Go to Device Manager (control panel>admin tools>computer management>device manager(on right hand side)) then part way down on the left you will see audio/video and game controllers from there you can remove codecs.0

What I did was install ffdshow (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow), and then everything works fine in WMP. No need to mess about with anything else, or any other players. ffdshow just makes it all work.

K-Lite is bundled with media Player Classic and is also bundled with ffdshow and haalis video renderer and all directx from version7 and nulls compressed and uncompressed format, you may want to try virtualdubmod and load the film (if supported file type) and you can extract the audio and save as an audio file I think in wma that ofcourse can be converted to mp3.
