BT Yahoo seriously compromised from16OCT13

Options
As previously reported BT Yahoo email has been hacked into this week. BT posted a flag on their 08001114560 help line making a strong suggestion for clients to change their passwords.

Clients have found that their contacts have been lifted, and removed from Yahoo; Subsequently the "Please send money" "hackneyed" emails went out to these contacts. We've all seen and heard about this.

But what was new, is that the hackers had created subaccounts with different passwords, which of course wasn't initially resolved by changing the main account password.

So if in doubt not only change passwords but also check for any new subaccounts and delete them.

Just checked my BT Yahoo ... I notice I have 2 email addresses - an @btinternet.com one and an @btopenworld.com one. I don't remember creating the latter one, but is this a standard creation or is this a sign of a hacked account? (I suspect standard as it doesn't give me an option to delete it).

I went to login to my BT desktop item today, to send an email, and came up against a totally changed screen, with various explanations that BT was going to use Outlook.
It did not recognise my login/password, and I tried to set one up but to no avail.
Does this mean my BT account has been hacked or not?

BTW, I login using the desktop icon which I always use and not a link via the favourites on Firefox.

I have just done a search and it appears that loads of people are having problems with the revamped Yahoo/BT email system.

I think that's been a problem for a year now, never mind 1 week. Amazed that BT/Yahoo haven't fixed this yet.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

don't log in directly to BT/Yahoo email

I had the same problem Clicking the "Email" directly would not recognise my broadband username and password.
    What to do is:

    • log into "My BT"
    • Then scroll down to "My Extras"
    • And then click on "Check Email"
    • Then log in with your broadband username and password.

Cheers, but I have logged into "My BT", and when I scroll down the page, I find "My Broadband" and "My TV" but no ""My Extras".
I have also managed to logon to the mail on another scren name which I hardly use, but this *** programme will not recognise my main screen name, and will not let me change the password, because it wants Outlook reconfiguring, and we do not use Outlook. I tried to manually adjust the settings and the screen froze.

Why the *** can they not leave things alone when they are working fine?

Having both (my-name)@btinternet.com and (my-name)@btopenworld.com addresses is perfectly normal. It's a hangover from many years ago when BT's broadband offering was called "BT Openworld". Both addresses will go to the same inbox.

If the names are different, though, then it's worth looking into.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
