Should I cancel my honeymoon??

We have a honeymoon booked for March to Antigua with virgin holidays. But my fianc! has just been forced to leave her job so our income is significantly reduced. It's an expensive holiday so do not really want to have to pay out such a large amount (the balance is due end of November) and would rather keep the money back in reserve for unforeseen expenses. I'm thinking about putting the holiday on an interest free credit card to be repaid once she has another job. Or cancel entirely and lose the deposit, or try to put the holiday back 6 months.

What do people think is best? Does anyone have experience of re arranging holiday dates with Virgin?

You should be able to claim on your travel insurance for redundancy.

You don't have to make the decision for another 6 weeks
I'd wait and see what comes up
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Yes the problem is that she is leaving of her own accord due to unreasonable demands on her and stress.

Presumably your girlfriend is taking legal advice from an employment lawyer about invoking a claim for constructive dismissal?

    Very important.

Travel insurance should pay out so long as her problems at work are properly documented. Strict time limits apply to the process, so please post elsewhere on this forum for advice about rights at work and how the law protects her in this kind of situation. And do so ASAP.

As anyone who is a regular reader of the Employment board will know the chances of a constructive dismissal claim being successful are regarded as very low. We don't know the circumstances or what was done to try to resolve the issue before resigning, but it's a big gamble to expect to win such a case AND that the travel insurance policy would pay out.

I would certainly give serious consideration to cancelling the honeymoon and substituting a lower priced one, but make sure that the T&Cs of the holiday booking do allow cancellation and be aware of what charges might be levied.
