Southern Electric SuperDeal
Hi,
I wonder if anyone could offer any advice?
We have the SuperDeal tariff from Southern Electric and i really can't work out if we're able to move to a different and cheaper supplier.
After reading the threads it looks like the comparison can't be done if you're on SuperDeal but there must be a way of finding out..?
Our usage in our 3-bed home with No gas and with storage heaters from 22 Jan - 15 July has been:
Day energy : 2398 @ 17.51p
Night energy: 184 @ 8.67p
Stored Heat energy: 9657 @ 7.16p
This has cost us £1,212.41 which i think is quite alot. There Must be a way of spending less..?:(
I'd like to know if we must stay with SSE because of the Superdeal or can we change? Also, after living in the property for 4 years i've had a look at how storage heaters work (the one's with just Inout & Output dials) but can't find out if i need to swith them off during the day? do they turn on and off automatically when the Night energy comes into play?
Thank you for ANY advice,
Steve

I use around 12500kwh a year 3 bedroom, I,m also all electric on economy 7 with Scottish power (at the mo) in process of changing to npower 2017, our annual bill came to just £950 odd
might be time to think about shopping around and using comparisons sites to see if theres anything cheaper for you.
the tariff your on, it seems you use most of quite a lot in day @17p have you tried using for example (washing machine at night when ur unit price is cheaper? not sure what Stored Heat energy: 9657 @ 7.16p as I,ve never come across that one before, I,m used to day and night units with economy 70 -
Electric standing charge £25.76 unit £4.57 used 2678 £484.01 year
Gas standing charge £25.76 unit £4.91 used 8217 £496.93 year

Hi OP, you might have problems doing comparisons for a Superdeal meter as they aren't as simple as an E7 or E10 meter. Most other supplier won't "support" this type of meter. Even though they have an obligation to, they would only price every unit used at the Day rate!! so not making it worthwhile to switch
Best thing i can suggest is to either look at ways of reducing your energy usage as the Superdeal tariff with SSE would probably be the most competitive, afaik the Superdeal tariff isnt fixed either?? Or if your home is reasonably warm with the current heating, you could have your meter replaced with an E7/E10 meter which would allow you access to more options in terms of tariffs available, this would reduce the number of hours your storage heaters charge up. There may also be some cost from an electrician as the heating possibly could need to be rewired, depending on how your system is currently set up0 -
Hi again,
Many thanks for the advice.
I think i'll find ways of saving the electric as i don't think it'll be worth/possible switching. I already don't allow the kids to heat their bedrooms to save money so don't know how the bill stays so high but Will try to do more stuff after midnight as it will be cheaper. I wished the housing association would plumb us with gas though!
Thanks for all the help,

Have just found this thread, and have the same problem. We are on SSE Superdeal, and would have much lower bills if we changed to the 1-year Fixed Rate tariff with Economy 7, but this involves changing the meter. SSE will do this, but tell me we have to employ an independent electrician to remove the wiring from the storage heaters into the meter. Presumably the same electrician would be needed after the meter change to reconnect - all very irritating. Why would this be?0
