Wouldn't it be a bit suspicious too? I mean opening a bank account and switching/closing it within a week?

So what? It would just look like you've changed your mind.

I've closed an account within a week, stating that I changed my mind.

For switching, a week might be too short, I'd probably leave it 10 - 14 days or so before switching.

If you don't want to keep the joint account then the answer is to have it changed into your name only (which will need the agreement of the other person) and then you can use the FD switching process. Don't forget that whatever account you switch from will need to have at least two active DDs or SOs on it.

It doesn't actually state this anywhere any longer. However, it would be a bit ridiculous to ask for the switcher service if there's literally nothing to switch.

If you don't want to go the route of DDs and/or SOs, then simply set up some bill payments...then there will be something to switch. :D

OK, I hadn't looked, it was in place when I switched a month ago but that was when I could still use the old system.

Very good suggestion. Suits those who won't or can't have any DDs or SOs.
