Do you have to fill in an R85 every year??

Just wondering- all of a sudden i have noticed that 'they' have started taking tax out of my savings ( i am a non tax payer).

Has a new rule bin brought in for this?? I haven't filled one in for a while and it's only just recently that i have noticed them deducting tax from the interest that has gone on yearly.. It is not a great amount but that is not the point..

Is there any chance of getting it back? and if so how do i go about it?

thanks

No, you only need one R85 per account. If they've been paying gross before and it's their error you might be able to get them to put it right.

Otherwise, you'll have to send off an R40. They're fairly prompt making the refund in my experience.

You may need to fill out new ones if your account changes, e.g. if a fixed rate bond comes to an end and you take out a new one.

Did your old account change in any way? Did you hit an "age barrier" e.g. 18 or 21? Did you start to earn? (The R85 asks for your NI number so the Revenue could easily cross check if they wanted).

Building society windfalls can also require a second form for the windfall, as opposed to the interest - probably as a Revenue double check.
