Energy Club switching - when is switching date
if you switch using MSE or Moneysupermarket etc. are you on the new supplier's tariff from the day you switch or only when the paperwork arrives 4-6 weeks later?
Also, what happens if the new supplier withdraws the plan you've changed to a few days after you switch on-line and before the paperwork arrives which could take 4-6 weeks ?

I'm in the same boat.
Switched earlier today from BG Clear and Simple to an EDF fixed one. Now that BG have just announced their increase I hope the switch over to EDF happens before they announce theirs and withdraw the existing fixed prices.0 -
yes, I hope the switch-over is not going to take 6 weeks but is activated from the day i did it on-line.0

I want to switch too from BG to SP fixed March 20150

I believe you can reject any price rises from your current supplier if you're in the process of switching, thus you won't be affected by price rises in that time.
Technically the date your tariff switches will be whatever date you submit your meter reading on. You usually get a range of dates for this so you can choose whichever will benefit you most (choose the earliest date if the new tariff is cheaper, choose the latest date if the new tariff is dearer).0 -
Can a choose a date to switch as my tarrif doesn't end to end of Nov and dont want to pay £60 exit fee it seems to suggest on net that it can take 4-6 weeks to switch0

The four to six weeks is only for the switch to be completed - the intial acceptance (of the fixed tariff available on the day you applied) arrives within hours/days.
You are not on the plan from the day you switch - but plans available then but not available then (eh?) are still available and will be honoured.
As to early exit fees you may have to battle computers levying them. Your contract states you have to give them 28 days notice. As such you should be free to apply 27* days from the end date. If they are playing silly <ahem> and process the request too quickly that is their fault. You may need manual intervention but I do not know of anyone being ultimately denied a refund of unjustly applied penalties.
*Technically you should be able to add another seven days for your new supplier's cooling off period but DO NOT use that.0
