Food supplements for doggy dandruff?

Gitdog is getting a bit scurfy and itchy. His coat looks in reasonable condition, but he's rubbing against the walls as he walks past and he's got white flakes.
He's on harringtons lamb and rice which I'm not looking to change as his ADHD behaviour may be food related and this seems to suit him otherwise.
He hates being brushed which I'm working on but probably isn't helping as he's moulting a lot - more than mutt ever used to.
So suggestions for things I can add to his food that won't break the bank. Would fish oils help, and if so which ones?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If you use fish oils, go for body oils not liver. Human fish oil supplements may be cheaper than fish oil aimed at dogs.

Mine get oily fish in their diet (e.g. raw sardines) but also coconut oil and rice bran oil added to their diet, which seems to help.

I was going to suggest an 'oil' supplement with his food. plain old olive oil might help. if you don't want to put it in with food then just put some on his paws - he wont be able to resist licking it off and will ingest it that way!

My dog's coat improved lots after taking vetzyme conditioning tablets daily - in fact people comment on how glossy her coat is now.

"These tasty yeast tablets contain vitamins and minerals important to your dog's health and fitness and complement all diets.

They provide a natural source of B-complex vitamins that help to guard against nervousness, poor coat and skin trouble and help maintain good health and vitality."

The other thing I'd suggest, rather than looking at food supplements, is to check out different bath products for him to reduce the itchiness

Ruby gets terrible scurfy dandruff when shes moulting, it's almost like she's shedding her skin as well as all the fur! Once the moult has finished, it seems to go back to normal. She's fed on Fish4Dogs so I don't add any fish oils to her diet.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

We tred all sorts of things for our first rescued greyhound, oils, different foods, shampoos, but nothing touched the problem, he was still scurfy and dandruffy 6 months on.

The first thing we did was find a wheat free food, as wheat is a cheap filler often used just to bulk out food for dogs, and can cause allergies and they don't digest it very well, if at all (it goes straight through them, think large, soft, frequent, hard to pick up deposits ;) , on the better food smaller, firmer easier to pick up).

I did a bit of reading and we tried a can of sardines on his dried complete food once a week, and all his other meals had a dessert spoon of sunflower oil and 2 tablespoons of dry porridge oats (tesco value), we then pour over some warm water and give it a stir.

It worked a treat, and is not expensive to maintain.

Sadly he has now passed, but we feed the same to our current pair, and any fosters that come to stay with us on their journey to new homes, and I can honestly say it's worked with all so far.

We recently ran out of porridge oats, and our fussy Galgo refused to eat her food, so it must taste good too! Luckily they are so easy to get, unlike some of the other things we tried which had to be ordered and would take a few days to get here!
