Problem with Microsoft Office 2010

I am having a problem with my Word and Excel documents. Two or three times a day they just crash for no apparent reason. I have tried a completely new install a couple of times but that hasn't worked. This has been happening for a couple of months now.
My PC runs on MS Vista.
Nothing else seems to be affected. I've run virus scans but there is nothing wrong there.
Can anyone help with this? I'm learning to save very frequently, but it still catches me out.

Did you uninstall all and any other versions, including Trials, before installing 2010?0

To be honest I can't remember. This hasn't always been a problem with Office 2010 though, when I first had it, it worked fine. I don't know what has changed.0
