Topped up the wrong prepay meter key
Hi, hopefully someone will be able to help. We moved house recently and have a prepay meter with a key. It has been topped up a few times now by me but I work away from home and my girlfriend came across a second key which is a different colour, (I'm assuming that the supplier was changed at some point) although she didn't realise it wasn't the right one and put £10 on it now the machine just says "ERROR". Is there anyway to get that refunded? Really don't want to swallow it as a loss and make the energy company in question even richer!
Thanks
Thanks

You should be able to get a refund (evein if it just the credit is sent to your meter).
One of two things could have happened:
The key could be for an old supplier at your new house. In which case, the payment should be redirected to your current supplier and make it onto your account. Give them a call, explain what happened and ask for the credit to be sen to the meter.
The key could be for another address. The payment will go to the currently open account at that address. If you know the address and the supplier, youo could give them a call and ask them to send you a refund. This will be harder to prove, but if the other house is far away (e.g. you moveed from Liverpool to Manchester) it is less likely that the payment could have been mad eby the person living there now. If you have the receipt, this will help you prove that you made the payment, not them. You may need to write/email with a copy of the receipt explaining what happened.

Thanks for the advice, I am currently working away from home so I don't know if she has kept the receipt but I have just messaged her to ask, hope she has. I'm home on the 24th so I might just need to wait until then to get it sorted.0

Thanks to the replies, it is now resolved, call to SSE and they gave me a code which I went I a pay point with and the credit was added to my key.0
