worse off working part time can I be sanctioned

I started a !5 hour cleaning job yesterday and absolutely hated it,they expected a large amount of work to be done in 3 hours and I felt I did not fit in with the other cleaners.I have just been on entitled to and I will be worse off as I will have to pay more rent and council tax maybe because my adult sons live with me.My question is can I be sanctioned for leaving the job because I will be worse off?

  • Are you certain you will be worse off? If you have non dependents living with you they should be paying towards the rent irrespective of whether you are in work.

If you have just started a job then leaving it within a few weeks usually isn't a problem. You can usually try out jobs and if they aren't suitable for you then you can leave without being sanctioned. Expect a lot of questions and prepare your answers in advance.

The OP does not fit the criteria for Employment on Trial. They would need very good reason for leaving the job, not enjoying it would not be sufficient.

If you earn less than you would claiming JSA, you shouldnt end up financially worse off even if your sons live with you.

If you are on benefit and your sons work, you'd still have to pay some rent, a friend of mine is on ESA and her son pays rent for her as he works.

Dont walk out of the job without getting advice. You could have stayed on JSA and declared your income, have you signed off?

It might help if you responded to all posts, not just those that tell you what you want to hear.

Why did you leave? What were your concerns and did you raise your concerns with the manager? What did the manager do to help resolve the problem? What could you have done to resolve the problem yourself? Was leaving the only choice available to you? There are a lot more...you will need to answer a lot more than yes or no.

How can you be worse off on a 5 hour contract? That amount of wages will still need to be topped up, you'll still have a live JSA claim because its going to be less than you need to live on.

If you were earning more than the 71 quid JSA a week I can understand why youd be paying more rent.

But a 5 hour contract should not affect the amount of rent your sons pay, because you arent earning over what you would be getting on JSA, the amount they would need to pay would be the same.

My first post should have said 15 hrs not 5 not signed off but told them I had the job,are the rules different if you have not signed off?
