Water inside upvc door.

Hello. For some time now my back upvc has been holding water inside it. When I open it the water poors out of the bottom into the kitchen. It appears that water somehow gets into the door and I guess that when its opened, a slight angle means that the water runs to the bottom corner and runs out. The door has no glass, just two large upvc panels top and bottom. When closed its fine so dont want to buy a new door. Any ideas on how to stop the water getting in the door would be really appreciated. Thanks. S

  • Sorry....missed out the key word "door". Its my upvc door that gets the water inside.

If you can't find out how the water is getting inside it seems the only solution would be to drill a few drainholes on the outside at the bottom.

  • Maybe a line of sealant round the upvc panels would stop the water getting in ?

First check the existing drainage holes are not blocked, usually 2 or 3 slotted holes, also check that the bottom fixing screws are not over tightened causing water to pool, Yes i'm speaking from personal experience good luck

  • Thanks for the responses so far. I guess the drainage holes are in the frame? I'd imagine that if these were blocked the water would leek into the kitchen and not build up inside the door? Do doors have drainage holes in them? Is it normal to have water inside the door...condensation?
  • when you say door do you mean the door or are you meaning in the bottom of the frame.Check with a mirror if there are any drain holes under the door and as suggested check if these are clear with hair clip or paper clip both here and in bottom of frame .

  • Thanks again for everyones responses. It was indeed due to blocked drainage holes in the frame and a poor design due to a centre strip of plastic stopping the water reaching the drainage holes. I simply cut some gaps into the plastic and the water flowed away.
