Please don't waste the DWP's time. If you are a Broader customer your supplier will have advised you need to be on supply with them to get the money. This will either be on their website or you may have had a legal declaration read out to you.

Core , it does not matter who you are with. You will get paid by the company that supplied you on 20th July this year.
Right then, so I will clearly need to be persuing Southern Electric for this then, as Mum is still with them until the move to NPower completes.
  • Mum also had that letter from British Gas. Luckily though they have given her the discount this month. I am in the process of moving us both to Npower after using the moneysavingtool.

When i spoke to DWP i found them very pleasant to deal with...got through straight away...cheerful and helpful even though they couldn't give me the answer i needed after volunteering to speak to their supervisor. I was pleasantly surprised and the energy companies could learn alot from them! EDF took me what 15 mins to get through to and just fobbed me off to DWP. Scottish power i didn't even get through to! To be honest i don't trust energy companies one bit these days! Though to be fair they will say the same as you just did though you might have to jump through hoops to get your money or wait longer for a cheque to clear.
  • Hi Joyful,

Sorry for the delay in replying, and sorry to the OP for any thread hijack here - hopefully, both are requests are similar enough to be useful to each other. My aunt is on a regular supply with British Gas (not prepayment) - she pays her bill monthly, on receipt. I can't persuade her to pay by direct debit. Hence my concern over the wording in BG's website.

It is reassuring that BG will (eventually) refund her HWD or the balance thereof. I do wish energy companies in general would be a bit more tranparent about this. Your help is much appreciated
