Mobile -Network not available

When I try to use some applications, I'm getting "Network not available" message.
But I can make & receive phone calls, so surely the network should be available if I can make calls.
About 6 hours ago, my battery accidentally came out.
The Date & Time have still not updated.
Why is the happening ?

Very difficult to say without further information e.g. what phone are you using?
Some applications can be set to only use Wi-Fi to save on mobile data costs. Assuming that you use Wi-Fi on your phone, is it turned on? Failing that, shut down the phone and restart it.0 -
Phoned T-Mobile technical support.
My phone is Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.
My Mobile Networks settings were not correct.
Switched on:
Use Packet Data
Data Roaming
Internet started working & Date/Time setting updated.
Not sure why they were off or had changed, as I didn't change them.
I have found that random settings occasionally change & icons have been moving around on screens, not sure why, as I have not changed or moved them.
I wish there was option to reset settings & screens to default, without wiping my personal data.0 -

Does the above mean that you have turned on DATA ROAMING? If so be aware that if you go abroad you may end up with a HUGE bill for internet usage. I think I am correct in saying that there should be no need for this to be 'on' if you are in this country.0 -
I don't know, I've just done what T-Mobile technical support said to get network/internet working & applications updating.downhillfast wrote: »Does the above mean that you have turned on DATA ROAMING? it sounds like your data connection is not working.
perhaps you are not getting 2/3G?
if all you was getting was GSM then phone calls and texts would still work, but any data would not.
has it worked in the past, or is this the first time you've tried it ?0 -
Data roaming is irrelevant if you are in your home country but go abroad with it switched on and watch the pennies fly out the window.0

Sometimes it takes a while for the data connection to reset if you pull the battery out of the phone. Your provider is still looking for your phone on the old IP address and refuses to let you connect till hits a timeout limit.
This can be anywhere from 5 mins to an hour. You tend to have to put your phone into "flight mode" or turn it off for 10 mins. then turn it back on to get a connection.
If you leave it on it can sometimes never reconnect properly so you might have voice and sms (which probably still uses a 2g connection than your data's 3G) So data's 3G signal refuses to connect.Laters

I have used internet/weather app a little in past few months. Only started using this phone in last few months.
Don't really know my way round these smart phones.
Don't think I have fantastic reception here.
As I said before some settings are changing by themselves, maybe because I carry phone in my pocket.0 -
There are 2 arrows, 1 up 1 down, next to each other next to I think signal strength symbol (columns next to each other)
There is a H next to the arrows, but sometimes there is a G.
What does this mean ?0 -
G means 3G
H means HSDPA which should offer faster speeds.
The two small arrows mean that something is being uploaded or downloaded ie your data is being used.0
