You are far more likely to find a low cost solution to a problem by looking on forums than by going to a garage.Just an idea but instead of asking people on a forum who are'nt qualified, you could go to your local garage. Internet forums are just full of hear say, most of it useless tosh
Perhaps in future if you are going to make such a post you should declare in it that you work in a dealer ship (as you did in your post of 12-10-2013, 6:40 PM).0 -
i would imagine that someone disconnected the cable and didn't put it back in properly. Very easy mistake for non car people to make.
I was in an awkward spot. Where I was with a friend who got a service on his old honda. I wasn't paying attention but I vaguely remember him taking off the oil cap and put it back on for no apparant reason. But it was just something I vaguely rememebr and I wasn't sure if this was before the service or after the service.
Anyway, oil cap came off while driving away after the service and oil spilled everywhere in the engine bay. he drove back and had a furious exchange with the garage, garage refused to admit responsibility but offered to clean the engine bay.
After the exchange I took my friend aside and told him I think he may have undid the oil cap himself.0 -
Over 25 years now working in the garage trade and seen lots of this "you was the last one to work on it."
Yes i was and by the look of it the only one.!! lol....:D
Now going back to your ten year old car in the engine bay the wires and cables are held in place by plastic clips which suffer with extreme heat and cold contracting and expanding hoses, cables, pipes etc over time of constant use these flimsy clips give in and do break a wire can drop and come loose, it happens at least now it's fixed and your back up and running.:D0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
I'm in no way blaming the mechanic, I was just curious if it could have been him since it had just been for its MOT but it's probably just came loose due to wear and tear.
At least i'll know how to fix it in the future and save myself a £108 call out fee!Did you know that 6 out of 7 dwarfs are not happy?!0 -
they are held on with rubber doughnuts or three 10mm nuts. my guess is some or all are missing. unless you open the bonnet and spend hours "ooooh look at that aint it lovely" and it does not have an air filter attached to it pull it off and chuck it or hang it on your wall if you must.0
